Read the device list correctly
Facebook shows each active entry with a device type, browser or app, and an approximate location.
  • Device type (iPhone, Windows PC, Android) tells you the hardware
  • Browser or app name tells you how it connected
  • Approximate city is IP-based, not a precise address

Know a device from a session
One phone can hold several sessions; logging out ends a session, not the hardware.
  • A device is the physical phone or computer
  • A session is one active login on that device
  • Removing a session logs that login out; the device can sign in again with your password

Name and recognize your own entries
Match each line to something you actually use before you decide to keep or remove it.
  • Cross-check the device type against phones and computers you own
  • Note your home and work cities to spot an unfamiliar location
  • If nothing matches, treat it as unrecognized and remove it

Prune third-party app access
Apps and games you once connected keep access until you revoke it in Apps and Websites.
  • Open Settings, then Apps and Websites
  • Remove any app you no longer use
  • Removing access does not delete your Facebook data

Dead ends and the way forward

Owner-only housekeeping on the account you control

โœ— Remove a device from someone else's accountYou can only manage devices on an account you own or supervise with consent.
โ†’ Manage your own account under Where You're Logged In, or set up consented parental supervision.
โœ— See which person is physically holding an unknown deviceFacebook shows device type and approximate IP city, never a name or exact address.
โ†’ Remove the unrecognized login, change your password, and review recent login activity.
โœ— Find someone's password to check their devicesRetrieving or using another person's password is account takeover, not monitoring.
โ†’ Ask the account owner to open their own device list, or use a consented family setup.
โœ— Recover a device entry after a session expiredExpired sessions simply disappear; there is nothing to restore.
โ†’ Turn on login alerts so future new-device logins notify you the moment they happen.

FAQ

What's the difference between a device and a session in Facebook's list?
A device is the physical phone or computer; a session is a single active login on it. One laptop can show several sessions. Logging out ends the session, but that device can sign in again with your password.
How do I remove an old phone from the list?
Open Settings, go to Security and Login, then Where You're Logged In. Tap the three dots next to the entry and choose Log Out. That ends the session on your own account; it does not delete anything.
Can I see who is using an unrecognized device?
No. Facebook shows the device type and an approximate, IP-based city โ€” never a person's name or exact address. If an entry looks wrong, log it out, change your password, and turn on login alerts.
Do I need to remove connected apps too?
It's good housekeeping. Under Settings, Apps and Websites, remove any third-party app or game you no longer use so it can't keep accessing your data. Removing access doesn't delete your Facebook account data.
Can you manage devices on someone else's account for me?
No. This is owner-only, or a minor child and consenting adults you supervise through official tools. We never help access, log out, or change an account you don't own.
