Read the 'Active now' list, not old history
An active session is a login that is open this moment and can act on your account until it's ended.
- 'Active now' means a live, currently-open session, distinct from a past login in your history
- Each row shows a device type, an approximate location, and the app or browser used
- Your current session is labelled so you don't log yourself out by mistake

Tell an app session from a browser session
The same account can be open in the Facebook app, Messenger, and a web browser at the same time.
- App sessions show a phone or tablet model and the Facebook or Messenger app name
- Browser sessions show a browser name (Chrome, Safari, Edge) and often 'Web'
- One physical device can hold several separate sessions, each ended on its own

Spot a session you don't recognize right now
Compare each active row against where you know you are actually signed in.
- A device model or city you never use is the clearest signal to review
- Location is approximate (from IP) so your own city may look slightly off, not proof of intrusion
- Unsure but suspicious: end that single session, then change your password

Log out of one session with a single tap
Ending a session signs that app or browser out on your own account; it never touches anyone else's.
- Select the session, then choose 'Log out' to end just that one
- The ended device must sign in again with your credentials to return
- Keeps your other sessions open, unlike logging out everywhere

FAQ
What counts as an 'active' Facebook session?
An active session is a login that is open right now and can use your account until it's ended, listed under 'Active now' in Password and security. That's different from a past login in your history, which is a record of an earlier sign-in that is no longer necessarily open.
How do I tell an app session from a browser session?
App sessions show a phone or tablet model and an app name like Facebook or Messenger. Browser sessions show a browser such as Chrome, Safari, or Edge, often marked as web. One physical device can hold several separate sessions, and you can end each one on its own.
A session shows the wrong city. Was my account accessed?
Not necessarily. Facebook estimates location from the IP address, so your own connection can appear in a nearby city or a mobile carrier's hub. Treat a device model or app you never use as the stronger signal. If you're unsure but suspicious, log out of that single session and change your password.
Does logging out of one session log me out everywhere?
No. Ending a single session signs out only that app or browser on your own account and leaves your other sessions open. If you'd rather end every session at once, use the log out of all devices flow instead.
Can I use this to end a session on someone else's account?
No. This only manages sessions on an account you own, or one you supervise for a minor child or a consenting adult using their credentials with permission. It cannot and should not be used to end or hijack a session on an account that isn't yours.
